World History Connected is pleased to announce the publication of its Fall 2026 issue, featuring the forum “Pirates & Piracy in World History,” guest edited by Ian Abbey. The issue reconsiders piracy as a global and historically contingent phenomenon shaped by commerce, empire, community, gender, warfare, and competing claims to legitimacy.

Vol. 23, no. 1 (Fall 2026) features a wide-ranging forum, Pirates & Piracy in World History, that explores pirates and piracy across regions, eras, and classrooms. From maritime Asia and early-modern China to Viking-age Scandinavia, Hawai‘i during the First World War, and the Atlantic world of Anne Bonny and Mary Read, contributors examine how piracy has been defined, remembered, contested, and taught. The issue also includes new articles on global urban history and history-education resources.
