Abstract

As Mason continues to support additional development of research- and scholarship-intensive courses, faculty must be aware of research compliance considerations. Classroom projects involving human participants continue to raise questions about the need for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review. This session will focus on the distinction between pedagogical assignments and research that requires IRB review, providing an opportunity for discussion of teaching practices that enable students to understand the history and development of human subjects protections and the human subjects review process.
