Abstract

SENCER (Science Education for New Civic Engagement and Responsibilities) is a national dissemination project funded by the NSF with over 2,000 members on 440 campuses actively addressing science education reform. The Chesapeake Bay SENCER Center for Innovation (CBSCI) promotes SENCER goals of improving undergraduate education in the sciences by teaching through complex societal issues associated with our most important regional resource, the Chesapeake Bay. We will introduce SENCER to those interested in interdisciplinary team teaching through complex social issues, explore opportunities for involvement in the CBSCI, and discuss a SENCER-model learning community developed at Mason.
