Abstract

Our goal for this poster session is to turn the complex task of online course design into a manageable sequence of common-sense steps. Our poster presentation will graphically represent the key steps in a systematic design process that covers creating and aligning learning outcomes to assessment activities, learning activities, and technology tools through transferring that plan into a course module in Blackboard. The poster will lay out a workflow for planning an online course, completing the alignment processes, and signposting the decision-making steps for making thoughtful pedagogical choices along the way. The session attendees will come away with a simple mind-map of the overall process, a knowledge of how to get started, and a variety of conceptual tools, instructional strategies, and good practices that comprise a Do-it-Yourself instructional design toolkit. Members of the instructional design team will be on-hand to guide, consult, and discuss how applying a systematic course planning strategy can help guide the development of an effective, innovative online course.
