Lessons Learned from Group Counseling with Young Adults with Intellectual Disabilities Enrolled in a Comprehensive Transition Program

The purpose of this practice article is to describe group counseling conducted with young adults with intellectual disability enrolled in a comprehensive transition program at a university in the Southern United States. There are very few guidelines available for counselors working with young adults with intellectual disabilities. The aim of this article is to describe the tools and techniques used when running these groups to assist other counselors in their efforts. Implications for practice are presented, as well as recommendations for future research with this population.
