Abstract

OSCAR is the Office of Student Scholarship, Creative Activities, and Research located in the Johnson Center room 246. The office facilitates projects between students and mentors in which students have the opportunity to experience research, scholarly, and creative projects from inception through execution to dissemination, embedded in classes, as independent projects, or as part of a team of researchers. OSCAR runs several programs, including the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program, the Undergraduate Student Travel Fund, the Research Assistant Program, and the Summer Impact Grants. We offer student workshops on poster writing, proposal writing, and summer opportunities, and regularly consult with faculty and students on developing research and creative projects. Our goal is to work with students and mentors from every discipline, in every college at Mason, and we are always looking for new directions and new opportunities for students and mentors. This poster will serve as a catalyst for ongoing discussions of how to facilitate student projects, new directions in undergraduate research, scholarly, and creative activities, and the forging of new partnerships on campus. What are your ideas of how OSCAR can expand opportunities for students in your discipline? How can we network to most effectively facilitate these opportunities? How can we include digital learning and resources in our programs? How can OSCAR connect more effectively to other experiential learning programs on campus?
