Vol. 17 No. 1: Winter 2020

Vol. 17, no. 1 (Winter 2020) features the Forum “Vikings in World History,” which uses Viking mobility, exchange, law, settlement, and encounters with other peoples to place Scandinavia within wider medieval and global networks. The Forum’s essays address teaching Vikings as connected world history actors, the Indigenous “other” in Viking exploration of Vínland, and the legacy of the ting in relation to justice, egalitarianism, and modern Scandinavian political culture. The issue also includes broader reflections on historical scale and method, including Tamara Shreiner’s call to use the historian’s “macroscope” to connect local and global processes.
