Vol. 17 No. 2: Summer 2020

Vol. 17, no. 2 (Summer 2020) opens with the Forum “Diffusion, Comparisons, and Periodization in the Pre-modern World,” which examines the concepts historians use to connect societies across time and space without flattening their differences. Its contributions consider the Axial Age through epic literature and interdisciplinary comparison, and ask how choices such as beginning a world history course in 1200 CE shape students’ understanding of historical change, connection, and chronology. The issue thus combines conceptual reflection with practical guidance for organizing and teaching the premodern world history survey.
