Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between narrative, identity, and violent action, and will offer techniques for disrupting the relationship between violence and identity. The argument proceeds by first demonstrating the non-universality of Western narrative structure and the relevance of that non-universality, then documenting the correlation between narrative and identity and between identity and action, and ends with a suggestion that a successful anti-terrorism strategy should encompass conflict rather than engage it.
