Abstract

When a faculty member partners with an undergraduate student to pursue an unanswered scholarly question, both parties will benefit. Indeed, ââ¬Åmentors are pivotal in ensuring the success of the student experience. They teach a variety of applied skills, methods, and techniques. ââ¬Â¦Through excellent mentoring, students are invited into the community of researchers and scholars as colleagues.ââ¬Â (Temple, L. et al., ââ¬ÅHow to Mentor Undergraduate Researchersââ¬Â, CUR, 2010.) Since the practice of mentoring is a learned skill, this interdisciplinary session will aim to elucidate and describe the best practices of successful mentors. The organizers will present strategic approaches to recognize strengths, set goals, and celebrate progress. We will also discuss the opportunities and resources available at Mason designed to support faculty mentors in their efforts.
