Abstract

Have you considered whether a service project in the local community might engage students with your course content in a more meaningful way? The latest innovations in service-learning are improving practice for faculty, community partners and students.
We will explore several useful approaches and models of best practice. In particular we will discuss the success of several sustained partnerships between Mason faculty and community organizations. These relationships enhance mutual understanding of service and course goals and reduce the need to find new service placements for students each time the course is taught.
If service-learning might be a fit for your course, but you have concerns about the logistics of finding a community organization to work with, this session will acquaint you with the resources available through Masonââ¬â¢s Center for Leadership and Community Engagement.
