"TEACHING TABLES:" Teaching Collaborative Authoring

Abstract

Knowing how to use web 2.0 platforms such as wikiââ¬â¢s, etherpads and googledocs in order to work collaboratively with colleagues across distances will prove an important skill for students of many disciplines. We can help them learn to do this now through collaborative writing assignments. Initial efforts can sometimes result in the ââ¬ÅIââ¬â¢ll write section one and you write section twoââ¬Â results, rather than in true collaboration. This session will describe how a thorough introduction to the concept and etiquette of collaborative authoring and thoughtful assignment design can result in students learning to create a truly group-written work.
