Creating Engaging Learning Experiences Using Multimedia Resources

Abstract

Participants will learn how using media and other library resources can enhance student engagement in online and hybrid courses. The presentation will include a showcase of the types of tools available through University Libraries including images, films, music, and primary sources from resources like ARTstor, Films on Demand, NAXOS Music Library, and ProQuest Historical Newspapers. The presenters will show how taking advantage of library content can help to create a learning environment in line with constructivist learning theory where students complete an "authentic assessment" which focuses on tasks such as performances, products, and constructed-response items (reflection, peer review, short answer essays, etc.) that encourage direct application of knowledge and skills.
